Hutchins on Robinson and Baines
Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchins is confident that Paul Robinson is keen to join the club.
The West Bromwich Albion left-back is desperate to play Premier League football once again and is said to have had a medical yesterday in a deal worth £1.5million.
Sunderland have also been linked with a move for the rugged defender, but it looks as if Hutchins has won the race.
Hutchings told the Manchester Evening News: “Robinson is a very good player, he’s a tenacious full-back with plenty of experience.
“He has also shown a hunger for this club and is keen to come on board.
“Left-back is the only position we have not had cover for. We’ve been playing Kevin Kilbane there as a stop gap.”
Wigan’s first choice left-back Leighton Baines has been linked with a move away from the club all summer and Hutchins revealed on Monday that they have rejected a player-plus-cash offer from Everton.
“We turned down a bid from Everton of £4million and a player, who they rate at around £2million,” Hutchins told Radio Five Live.
“I have a very good relationship with Leighton and we’d like him to stay but we can’t stop speculation or other clubs making offers.”
“It wouldn’t be very good business if we took less than that, so we’ll be looking for that,” he added.
